Swiss Pavilion at the 18th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale
By
Our works for the 18th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, The laboratory of the Future, also feature the Swiss Pavilion, commissioned to the artist Karin Sander and the art historian Philip Ursprung, professors at ETH Zurich.
Entitled Neighbours, the project is dedicated to the spatial and design closeness between the Swiss Pavilion and the adjacent Venezuelan Pavilion, also united by the professional bond between their respective architects, the Swiss Bruno Giacometti and the Italian Carlo Scarpa. Rethinking the two environments as a spatial continuity, the curators thus choose to exhibit the pavilion, overcoming their respective boundaries through artistic means and transforming the architecture, its materials and its spatial relationships in the exhibition itself.
In the main hall, a carpet thus presents the two temporary floor plans, while a temporary opening in the brick enclosure makes visible the connection between the two pavilions, also underlined by the temporary removal of the iron fences that delimit the openings of the Swiss pavilion. The intervention thus opens an open conversation between art and architecture, exploring their boundaries.
