There are already several green museums around the world that incorporate the concept of sustainability into their facilities or structure. One of the most famous example is the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. Designed by Renzo Piano, the exterior of the museum blends in harmoniously with its surroundings, while the structure is almost entirely composed by recycled material and the lighting is provided by solar panels.
The eco-sustainable design of space and form, as well as the use of natural materials, are some of the key issues influencing the modern museum concepts. The setting-up has become more and more an answer to the need of communicating the values of environmental sustainability. The design of a set-up through the use of ecological criteria can, in fact, show how it is really possible to reduce the environmental impact, thanks, for example, to a careful arrangement of light sources, by employing electrical devices with A, A +, A ++ energy class, the use of recycle materials or the recycling/reuse of the construction materials themselves.
