On the occasion of the 58th International Art Exhibition organised by the Venice Biennale and inaugurated on the 11th of May last year, Tosetto curated a number of installations for scheduled official and side events.
Our creations includethe National Pavilions of Italy, Ghana, United Arab Emirates, India and Australiaand the special project at the Pavilion of Applied Arts in the Arsenal. Curated by Marysia Lewandowska, this latest exhibition hosts an audiovisual work aimed at highlighting the apparent absence of women in historical narratives related to exhibitions and museums, and to propose an alternative version of events.
Acclaimed as one of the best exhibition spaces of the 2019 Biennale, the Ghana Pavilion astonished visitors with a collection of sculptures, photographs, paintings and videos exhibited in interconnected elliptical areas plastered with locally sourced soil. The exhibition, curated by Nana Oforiatta Ayim and designed by Sir David Adjaye, offers a reflection on the historical evolution of the country, from the conquest of independence to today, through the works of the greatest contemporary Ghanaian artists.
The Italian Pavilion curated by Milovan Ferronato, succeeded in arousing visitors’ curiosity with a special labyrinthine layout in which the viewer decides the route. The exhibition, inspired by Italo Calvino’s essay “Challenge to the Labyrinth”, becomes a concrete metaphor for the unpredictability and non-linearity of human existence.
Tosetto also oversaw the design and layout of two side events: “Förg in Venice” and “Baselitz-Academy“. The first of these, supported by the Dallas Museum of Art and open to visitors at the Palazzo Contarini Polignac until the 23rd of August, 2019, brings together a selection of abstract paintings and bronze sculptures by one of the most influential post-war German artists, Günther Förg.
The exhibition “Baselitz-Academy“, hosted by the Gallerie dell’Accademia, Venice, traces the crucial junctions in Georg Baselitz’s extraordinary artistic career through a large collection of paintings, drawings, engravings and sculptures. Curated by Kosme de Barañano, the retrospective examines the work of the German master in relation to Italian historical-artistic tradition and the legacy of the Academy. It will be open to the public until the 8th of September, 2019.
