The exhibition Henri Cartier-Bresson. China 1948-49 | 1958 has opened at the MUDEC in Milan.
Created in collaboration with the Henri Cartier-Bresson Foundation, the exhibition brought together an exceptional corpus of photographs and archival documents by the French master of photo-reportage, with over 100 original prints as well as period magazines, documents and letters.
An unprecedented excursus to explore two fundamental historical moments in Chinese history: the fall of the Kuomintang and the establishment of the communist regime (1948-1949) and the Great Leap Forward of Mao Zedong (1958), retraced through the lens of Cartier-Bresson. With this work, carried out during a ten-month stay, the photographer was able to present to the Western world also aspects that were hidden by the regime’s propaganda and to document the fall of Nanking.
Our team is proud of the set up of the exhibition, which brings the visitor into contact with one of the absolute apexes in world photojournalism, enhancing its unique style and unmistakable black and white through a setting that has a strong visual impact, capable of giving importance to faces and to the marginal stories through which the photographer explore the reality around him.
