On 8 December the exhibition Giotto and the Twentieth Century was inaugurated at the MART in Rovereto. Curated by Alessandra Tiddia, the exhibition is created with the contribution of numerous scholars and in collaboration with the Civic Museums of Padua.
The exhibition displays over 200 works by modern and contemporary artists inspired by the art of Giotto, the master who revolutionized medieval painting, inaugurating the modern era. Divided into seven sections, the exhibition begins with a large immersive installation that reproduces the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua, a sophisticated video projection created from high resolution images, processed by the University of Padua and made available by the Civic Museums of Padua and capable of virtually transporting the visitor inside the famous cycle of frescoes from the 14th century, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The exhibition continues in a chronological and thematic order, with works by great artists of the 20th and 21st centuries united by the passion and recognition of the figure of Giotto: from Carlo Carrà and Giorgio de Chirico to Henri Matisse and Mark Rothko, up to the installation of James Turrell and the works of Chiara Dynys and Tacita Dean, that once again renew the dialogue with one of the greatest masters of all time.
We are proud of the set-up created by our team, which accompanies the visitor on a century-long journey through Giotto’s suggestions in the context of the MART, whose collection includes dozens of masterpieces unequivocally influenced by Giotto’s activity.
