Our work for La Biennale 2022 also features the exhibition Beyond: Emerging Artists at Palazzo Franchetti, which presents the works commissioned by Abu Dhabi Art to the artists Christopher Joshua Benton, Maitha Abdalla and Hashel Al Lamki, supported by guest curators Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath, as part of the homonymous project in support of emerging Emirati artists.
Adapted to the space of Palazzo Franchetti, the works relate to various contemporary themes. In The World Was My Garden, Benton investigates the macro-themes of migration, labor economy and history of slavery in the Gulf through the metaphor of a palm tree suspended in the air, in a multimedia work that combines video, installations and sculpture.
In the work Too Close to the Sun, Abdalla explores female nature and how different social forces have always tried to control it, also questioning issues such as the dimension of the human being, the archetype of the wild female psyche and the indomitable character of animals through video performance, sculpture, photography and works on canvas.
Finally, Al Lamki’s multidisciplinary work Neptune explores natural, real and imagined realms, reflecting through sculpture and canvas on the limitation of earth’s resources and the impact this has on human psychology, in an exhibition that contemplates the possible liberation from the duties and boundaries of everyday life through the adoption of a lifestyle rooted in nomadism.
Our team took care of the whole set-up of the exhibition, with a result of strong visual impact, which creates a multimedia path capable of arousing profound reflections.
