A few days ago the site-specific installation Passi by artist Alfredo Pirri has inaugurated in the Maniace Castle in Syracuse, as part of the PASSI cycle launched in 2003 and on this occasion, curated by Helga Marsala, flanked by the video “Steps” by Pietro Leone.
An enchantment of mirrors that became a reflection on matter, double and space, investigated through a huge floor of walkable mirrors of 800 sqm in interaction with the steps of the public, in a seamless process that invited to reflect on the coexistence between past, present and future, on the relationship between fragment and whole and on specularity as a comparison with oneself and relationship with the other. By the will of the artist, on the mirror floor were also placed some archaeological finds, similar to evidence emerged from the waves, traces of the Syracusan territory designed to restore its history and to give space and prominence to what is currently kept in the deposits of the museums, waiting to be rediscovered and staged.
For our team it was a realization of great visual impact, capable of temporarily reinventing and transfiguring a thousand-year-old monument such as the Hypostyle Hall of the Maniace Castle, creating a perfect synthesis between history and contemporary art and inviting the public to be the protagonist of a collective performance.
